Like many runners, I often am asked ‘How far is a marathon?’ When I respond ’26.2 Miles’ there is usually a confused, shocked look on the person’s face, and they typically say something like ‘I could never run that, I hardly like to drive that.’ And so, to help the non-runners out there gain some perspective, here’s a ‘this equals that’ for common race distances.
Common running distances –
5k = 3.1 miles… the distance from Premise Maid (Breinigsville) to Burger King (Kutztown) on Rt 222
5 Miles… the distance from Dorney Park to the Velodrome by way of 222
10k = 6.2 miles… the distance from Trexler Mall to the triangle (4th & Chestnut) in Emmaus
10 Miles… the distance from the Route 78/22 New Smithville Exit to the Route 22 Cedar Crest Exit
Half-Marathon = 13.1 Miles… the distance from Quakertown to historic Bethlehem
Marathon – 26.2 Miles… the distance from Center City Reading (Penn St) to Trexlertown (Rt 100)
